The International Water Management Institute (IWMI) has taken another step towards strengthening regional cooperation in hydro-diplomacy education through the signing of two agreements aimed at advancing a joint Master’s Program in Water Diplomacy and Water Resources Management.

The agreements include a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding between IWMI, the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan, and the Shirinsho Shotemur Tajik Agrarian University, alongside a bilateral agreement between the two universities to jointly develop and implement the Master’s program.

Signed under the Blue Peace Central Asia (BPCA) initiative, these agreements build on ongoing regional efforts to establish a coordinated approach to hydro-diplomacy education. Through joint curriculum development, regional consultations and collaboration among universities, the initiative aims to equip future water professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to address shared water management challenges and strengthen transboundary cooperation.

This milestone reflects the commitment of partner institutions to advancing higher education and fostering long-term regional collaboration in water resources management.

The Blue Peace Central Asia initiative, supported by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), is implemented by IWMI and the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), in partnership with the Regional Environmental Centre for Central Asia (CAREC).
