Şubat 10, 2020

It’s no secret that greenhouse gas emissions are still climbing and putting our climate goals at risk. But do you know which are the largest sources of planet-warming gases?

WRI’s Climate Watch platform just published the latest available data for all countries, sectors and gases – data that we have squeezed into an interactive infographic that shows the sectors that produce the most emissions, which activities they contributed to and a breakdown of each greenhouse gas.

A few findings:

  • Energy consumption is by far the biggest source of human-caused greenhouse gas emissions, responsible for a whopping 73% worldwide.
  • The fastest-growing sources of greenhouse gas emissions since 1990 are industry (+174%) and transportation (+71%).
  • The world’s top ten emitters account for 68% of global emissions. Yet thus far none of them have publicly pledged to strengthen their national climate commitments this year, though 108 other countries have.
